Established in 1987, Italy’s .IT country-specific top-level extension is really popular both within the country and in the English-speaking world. The reason is that the domain is a pronoun, which can be used for building inventive and attractive domain names – write.it, youcanmake.it and so on. As there are existing Second-Level Domains that include names of different areas and localities in Italy reserved for local 3rd-level registrations, new names that include geographical areas of any kind are not allowed on any level to avoid any future confusion.
