An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a PC and serves as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it transmits requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). A lot like a personal computer, hosting servers also feature an Operating System that functions as a host for any software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so it is possible to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Hosting
We provide as many as three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our virtual private servers
- Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs available and we provide all three of them rather than only 1 as we realize that you may want to install some software with specific requirements regarding the Operating System it will run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there're different software packages you can install on the hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS if you would like to use one and for this reason we offer several Control Panels too. If you ever decide that you want some other OS, our technical support can quickly wipe the current one and set up the one that you need. In addition, we offer an optional service to maintain the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Web Hosting
In case you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers
, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a broader choice regarding the system environment on your machine as different applications may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and enjoy a stable and secure Internet hosting service. Depending on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected initially doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also upgrade the OS regularly to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
